With the amendment to the communiquรฉ published in the Official Gazette dated April 9, 2025, the Ministry of Trade has made it mandatory to state the source information on consumer products containing animal-derived components. Accordingly, labels, packaging, on the product or through the document presented with the package; There will be clear information about the animal from which the components such as leather, bone, wool, fur are obtained.
In addition, e-commerce and other distance selling platforms are expected to provide this information in Turkish in product descriptions in a readable, easily recognizable and non-misleading manner. This obligation aims to provide consumers with the opportunity to make healthy choices before purchasing and to support the informed choices of individuals who avoid animal products for religious, ethical or health reasons.
All these implementation principles were shared in a detailed 19-page guide titled “Guidance on the Disclosure Obligation for Consumer Products Containing Animal Origin Parts”. The guide guides producers and sellers with labeling standards, sample applications and frequently asked questions. The Ministry of Trade aims to increase transparency between companies and consumers by making the guide public.
